Best Marvel Snap Decks Tier List (August 2023)

Best Marvel Snap Decks Tier List (August 2023)

The Best Marvel Snap Decks

Welcome to our best decks tier list where I try to cover all of the best decks in Marvel Snap.

In this article, I’ll be covering what I believe are the best decks in the meta, and potentially some honorable mentions.

It’s been just over a week in the new August Season, and the meta has shifted a good amount. Overall, Darkhawk is still “policing” the meta by simply playing good cards with a lot of tech through Shang-Chi and Enchantress.

Movement decks have risen in popularity to combat Darkhawk, but these Movement Tempo decks tend to struggle against other combo decks that can go over the top in Power.

The release of Daken has also been interesting. He hasn’t shaped the meta, but he can definitely slot into pre-existing archetypes like Surfer or Discard. However, once X23 and Silver Samurai release, we may see a new Daken Good Cards type list become a dominant archetype.

Let’s get into the tier list.

Table of Contents

Removed Decks

Zabu Stature

Darkhawk has resurfaced as a top tier deck, and you can definitely slot in Stature/Black Bolt into the deck as well. I didn’t want to put a ton of different Darkhawk variations into the tier list, so the Darkhawk deck will be an all encompassing S tier.

Phoenix Force

You sometimes see Phoenix Force as a side option in Shuri Nimrod lists, but I think it’s more niche, so I’m removing it from the list for now.

Darkhawk Dino

Dino is no longer a popular variation in Darkhawk decks as it leaves you very vulnerable to Rogue, Shang-Chi, and Enchantress, which isn’t great for Darkhawk mirrors.

High Evo Control

With Spider-Man being a tempo move card rather than a Control card now, Control decks in general have lost their edge. Bounce is also no longer the top deck of the format, so Control tools are less necessary to combat the meta. The release of Legion also nerfed Storm as she’s not as reliable at closing down locations.

Thanos Control

This deck revolved around the Professor X and old Spider-Man play pattern. With that gone, most Thanos lists have either gone into Ongoing or Lockjaw instead.

Disclaimers

In general, this tier list is looking to cover the meta when it comes to Conquest. Ladder climbing is very different from Conquest, so some decks that are rated lower can definitely work better in Ranked.

Credits to snap.fan for their deck builder and images sourced from their website.

Lastly, there are many more deck archetypes that we would consider to be “tier 4” or “tier 5.” We are deciding to omit these decks as many of them mainly Series 3 only decks or aren’t quite powerful to be put onto this list.

  • 1-cost: Korg
  • 2-cost: Spider-Ham, Zabu, Jeff
  • 3-cost: Killmonger
  • 4-cost: Darkhawk, Shang-Chi, Captain Marvel, Enchantress, Rock Slide, Iron Lad
  • 5-cost: Legion

Commentary:

Darkhawk is continuing to “police” the meta through easy access to tech cards. Shang-Chi, Enchantress, Killmonger, Legion, and even Spider-Ham are all extremely disruptive to many decks.

While the deck doesn’t slam the most Power on the board, having all of these tech cards makes the deck powerful into plenty of decks. The deck simply has answers to a majority of other decks.

Replacements:

Stature and Black Bolt can definitely be added into the deck to put more Power onto the board in exchange of dropping tech cards.

Movement Good Stuff – S-Tier

  • 1-cost: Kitty Pryde
  • 2-cost: Angela, Kraven, Jeff, Silk
  • 3-cost: Spider-Man
  • 4-cost: Shang-Chi, Captain Marvel, Miles Morales
  • 5-cost: Legion, Vision
  • 6-cost: America Chavez

Commentary:

This deck has risen in popularity specifically as a way to target Darkhawk decks. By keeping cards like Angela and Kraven at 8 Power or lower, you are not vulnerable to Shang-Chi.

Kitty Pryde enables Angela and lets you bounce your Silk around to buff up Kraven as well. The deck constantly has cards that move, letting you play Miles Morales for an efficient 1/5.

Kraven and Angela then become 2 cost for 8 Power, which is extremely powerful. Kitty Pryde is usually safe from Killmonger, so this deck really looks to just be as powerful as possible without being vulnerable to tech cards.

However, because of this, the deck can lose to decks that simply want to overpower you with strong combos. (But those decks are policed by Darkhawk)

Replacements:

Magneto is a very solid addition as it’s a good way to counter Darkhawk decks (most of their cards are 3 or 4-cost).

Stature and Black Bolt also fit into this archetype as it fits the cost curve. It can be awkward to have Stature and Kitty Pryde in your final hand, but it can still work if you play both along with a 4-cost instead of only one 1-cost and 5-cost on turn 6.

Sera Surfer – S-Tier

Marvel Snap Sera Surfer Deck

Sera Surfer Decklist:

eyJOYW1lIjoiTmV3IERlY2siLCJDYXJkcyI6W3siQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiTm92YSJ9LHsiQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiSW52aXNpYmxlV29tYW4ifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IkplZmZUaGVCYWJ5TGFuZFNoYXJrIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJTaGFkb3dLaW5nIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJNYXhpbXVzIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJCcm9vZCJ9LHsiQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiS2lsbG1vbmdlciJ9LHsiQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiU2lsdmVyU3VyZmVyIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJEYWtlbiJ9LHsiQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiUm9ndWUifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IkFic29yYmluZ01hbiJ9LHsiQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiU2VyYSJ9XX0=
  • 1-cost: Nova
  • 2-cost: Invisible Woman, Jeff
  • 3-cost: Brood, Rogue, Silver Surfer, Killmonger, Shadow King, Daken, Maximus
  • 4-cost: Absorbing Man
  • 5-cost: Sera

Commentary:

Sera Surfer is a strong archetype that has a lot of good answers to the other top decks. Rogue helps counter Darkhawk, and Shadow King helps counter the Movement decks with Angela and Kraven.

Invisible Woman lets you be a little cheeky with things like Killmonger or Silver Surfer behind her, but she is vulnerable to Rogue and Enchantress, both of which are prevalent.

Daken is a decent inclusion in the deck, but you could honestly replace him with any strong 3-cost card and you’ll be fine.

Replacements:

Mirage is a good replacement for Invisible Woman if you have her. If you get a 1-cost from Mirage, you can play out a 3-cost and the 1-cost on turn 4 for more power.

Storm and Juggernaut can be added back into the deck, but the location control isn’t as powerful in this current meta.

Shuri Zero – S-Tier

Marvel Snap Shuri Zero

Shuri Zero Decklist:

  • 1-cost: Sunspot, Nebula, Zero, Ebony Maw
  • 2-cost: Armor, Lizard
  • 3-cost: Sauron
  • 4-cost: Shuri, Typhoid Mary
  • 5-cost: Taskmaster, Red Skull
  • 6-cost: She-Hulk

Commentary:

This Shuri deck is the last deck I’d consider Tier 1. The deck is still very vulnerable to Shang-Chi, but if you have the perfect curve with Armor, you can protect yourself from that.

You also have the skip turn 5 into She-Hulk Taskmaster play that can win games as well.

While the deck isn’t as flexible as the ones above it, it’s arguably the best simple Point slam deck in the game at the moment.

Replacements:

Cosmo can be added as another layer of protection against Shang-Chi. Vision can also be added as an alternative Shuri target to try and avoid Shang-Chi.

Planet Hulk – A-Tier

  • 1-cost: Sunspot, Nebula, Misty Knight
  • 2-cost: Armor, Shocker
  • 3-cost: Magik, Cosmo
  • 4-cost: High Evolutionary
  • 5-cost: Leech
  • 6-cost: She-Hulk, Hulk, The Infinaut

Commentary:

I originally called this deck Planet Hulk as it used the Hulks and Moon Girl, but Moon Girl has lost popularity over Leech.

Leech is very important to blank cards like Shang-Chi or Legion on turn 6 to avoid being countered.

This deck is another point slam deck similar to Shuri, but it’s arguably a bit less consistent. While you can often play for 3 lanes better than Shuri, Shuri more consistently plays for 2 lanes better.

Replacements:

Moon Girl is still a viable card to play to double up on She-Hulk or even go for Hulk on turn 6 into Hulk on turn 7.

Jeff can replace Shocker as Jeff is just one of the best cards in the game.

America Chavez can also be added to ensure you draw your 1-cost cards, as playing those on curve is very important to get additional Power on board.

Shuri Nimrod – A-Tier

  • 1-cost: Nova
  • 2-cost: Bucky Barnes, Carnage, Wolverine
  • 3-cost: Killmonger, Venom, Deathlok
  • 4-cost: Shuri
  • 5-cost: Nimrod
  • 6-cost: Arnim Zola, America Chavez, Destroyer

Commentary:

Shuri Nimrod decks are another strong Point slamming deck that is not vulnerable to Shang-Chi. (I’m starting to see a pattern here)

While Armor and Cosmo can shut down your play lines, they’re much less common than Shang-Chi. As such, this deck can often play uninterrupted.

Shuri, into Nimrod, into Venom/Carnage/Deathlok can output a ton of Power that isn’t easily stopped by the main top decks.

Discard – A-Tier

  • 3-cost: Daken, Lady Sif
  • 4-cost: Dracula, Absorbing Man
  • 5-cost: M.O.D.O.K.
  • 6-cost: Apocalypse, America Chavez

Commentary:

Discard is another solid deck that plays around Shang-Chi through Dracula. While the new card, Lady Deathstrike, can counter Dracula, she isn’t very common in the meta.

Daken has replaced Storm once again as Storm is less valuable this meta. Absorbing Man is also a notable inclusion over Hell Cow as a way to copy powerful effects like Daken, Lady Sif, or even Colleen Wing.

Sera Miracle – A-Tier

  • 2-cost: Angela, Scarlet Witch, Invisible Woman, Mysterio
  • 3-cost: Bishop, Hit-Monkey, Killmonger
  • 4-cost: Shang-Chi, Enchantress
  • 5-cost: Sera

Commentary:

Sera Miracle is still a consistent archetype, but has definitely fallen off since the nerfs to Kitty and Hit-Monkey.

Like Darkhawk, the deck has a lot of answers to various decks, but the showings haven’t been amazing for this deck.

Even still, the deck is very consistent and can go very far in Ranked and Conquest.

Lockjaw – A-Tier

Marvel Snap Lockjaw Deck

Lockjaw Decklist:

  • 3-cost: Lockjaw, Killmonger, Wave, Spider-Man
  • 4-cost: Shang-Chi
  • 5-cost: Devil Dinosaur, Vision
  • 6+cost: Thanos, Magneto, Death

Commentary:

Thanos Lockjaw is once again the prevalent Lockjaw version after the nerfs to the High Evo Lockjaw deck.

This deck excels at high rolling games through Lockjaw and the Infinity Stones, but the deck can be inconsistent. You really have to leverage your snaps well to find success with this deck.

Negative Surfer – A-Tier

Marvel Snap Negative Surfer Deck

Negative Surfer Decklist:

  • 2-cost: Zabu
  • 3-cost: Ironheart, Mystique, Wolfsbane, Brood, Magik, Rogue, Silver Surfer
  • 4-cost: Mister Negative, Wong
  • 5-cost: Iron Man

Commentary:

If you were playing back when Silver Surfer first released, Negative Surfer was an extremely popular deck. The deck can output a ton of Power if you can curve with Zabu on 2 and Mister Negative on 3.

Magik is also a great inclusion to get another powerful draw, but many decks are including Legion as a location changer, which can disrupt your game plan.

In general, Negative deck’s biggest weakness is usually itself. It lacks consistency, but when things line up, it can output unmatched amounts of Power.

Bounce – A-Tier

Marvel Snap Bounce Deck

Bounce Decklist:

  • 2-cost: Angela, Jeff, Mysterio
  • 3-cost: Bishop, Hit-Monkey, Beast
  • 5-cost: Iron Man
  • 6-cost: America Chavez

Commentary:

Bounce has definitely fallen by the wayside in the recent meta. It doesn’t quite slam enough points anymore, and people are more used to the play patterns now.

Even still, it is a fairly resilient point slamming deck as you usually give up priority going into the last turn. The deck definitely isn’t dead, but nowhere near it’s peak from pre nerf days.

Replacements:

  • Invisible Woman
  • Falcon
  • Spider-Ham
  • Hawkeye

Thanos Ongoing – A-Tier

  • 3-cost: Jean Gray
  • 4-cost: Ka-Zar
  • 5-cost: Blue Marvel, Professor X, Valkyrie
  • 6-cost: Spectrum, Thanos

Commentary:

Thanos Ongoing has seen more play as the combination of Control tools and Ongoing Power can be quite strong. Cards like Valkyrie and Ghost can also help counter Shuri decks which are seeing more play.

However, this deck can be very susceptible to Killmonger, where as other Thanos decks don’t care as much about keeping the Stones alive.

  • 2-cost: Spider-Ham
  • 3-cost: Electro, Wave
  • 5-cost: Devil Dinosaur, Sandman, Black Panther
  • 6-cost: Arnim Zola, Leader, Doctor Doom, Galactus, Odin

Commentary:

Electro Ramp decks have been around for a while, but this new take is becoming the new way to build Electro. Built by Irimmm, this deck uses Galactus as one of the additional ways to win. While the inclusion of Galactus may not be a surprise anymore, this deck has too many things to play around that it makes it difficult for opponents.

However, limiting opponent’s to one card isn’t as powerful anymore as the top decks can definitely play around Sandman. With Bounce and Sera being less prevalent, this deck definitely loses some points.

  • 4-cost: Jubilee, Iron Lad
  • 5-cost: Iron Man, Modok
  • 6+-cost: Hela, Onslaught, The Living Tribunal, Giganto, The Infinaut

Commentary:

The changes to Magik and the Living Tribunal have helped Hela decks a lot. With Living Tribunal, Hela decks don’t have to worry as much about reviving cards to bad locations.

Magik also gives the deck an extra turn to pull off the combo, similar to Electro.

Replacements:

  • 3-cost: Killmonger, Venom, Deathlok
  • 4-cost: Shang-Chi
  • 6+cost: Knull, Thanos, Death

Commentary:

Thanos Destroy is less common than Ongoing, but still has merit. Instead of control tools, this deck simply looks to out power other decks while having utility through the Infinity Stones.

Even still, the deck is vulnerable to just about every tech card out there like Shang-Chi, Armor, Cosmo, Shadow King, Rogue, etc.

  • 0-cost: Wasp
  • 2-cost: Mister Sinister, Invisible Woman
  • 3-cost: Mystique, Brood, Debrii, Wave
  • 4-cost: Iron Lad
  • 5-cost: Blue Marvel
  • 6-cost: Doctor Doom, Onslaught, Ultron

Commentary:

Invisible Woman is a perfect addition to Patriot as this means your Patriot can’t be hit by Enchantress, and your Ultron can avoid Killmonger if you have priority.

The deck looks to finish the game with Ultron to fill the board and fight for all 3 lanes. It’s a simple deck, but it just doesn’t have quite enough to match the top meta decks at the moment.

Replacements:

  • Iron Man

Daken Combo – B-Tier

  • 1-cost: Nova
  • 2-cost: Invisible Woman, Jeff
  • 3-cost: Magik, Killmonger, Wave, Daken
  • 4-cost: Absorbing Man
  • 5-cost: Black Panther, Modok
  • 6-cost: Arnim Zola, America Chavez

Commentary:

This deck is a fun little creation I made to have some fun with Daken. The deck looks to use Arnim Zola to triple the Muramasa Shard, and with Modok, you’re looking at two 32 Power Dakens.

Magik lets you extend this further by adding an Absorbing Man, letting you pull of two 64 Power Dakens.

Black Panther is an alternative win condition if your draws don’t line up, and Invisible Woman is used to park Modok so you can Arnim Zola on 6 and not rely on Magik or Wave to play Arnim Zola early.

Overall, this deck is really fun, and if you are uninterrupted, there are very few things you lose to.

HOWEVER, you lose to so many tech cards. Spider-Ham? Arnim Zola is dead. Cosmo? rip. Legion on your Magik? rip. Enchantress or Rogue on your Invisible Woman? Modok rips your entire hand early.

Even still, I wanted to add this as a deck to have some fun with if you want to play some casual snap.

Negative – B-Tier

Marvel Snap Negative Deck

  • 1-cost: Bast, Kitty Pryde
  • 2-cost: Angela, Zabu
  • 3-cost: Ironheart, Morph, Mystique, Hit-Monkey
  • 4-cost: Mister Negative, Darkhawk
  • 5-cost: Iron Man, Jane Foster

Commentary:

They recently changed Mister Negative so that the cost of cards cap at 6. this means if you draw Negative Jane Foster, she will cost 6 instead of 8. This means you can add in Magik to play Jane Foster on turn 6, letting you draw all of your Negative 0-cost cards.

However, the deck is still quite inconsistent, and even with the change, you are still very vulnerable to Legion.

Cerebro 2 – A-Tier

Marvel Snap Cerebro 2 Deck

  • 1-cost: Iceman
  • 2-cost: Goose, Luke Cage, Mister Sinister, Scorpion, Spider-Ham
  • 3-cost: Cerebro, Mystique, Brood, Magik, Storm
  • 5-cost: Blue Marvel

Commentary:

Cerebro 2 has been on the rise recently as well. Cards like Goose and Storm can lock off enemies, and Luke Cage also helps make sure the deck can’t be disrupted by things like Soul Stone.

While the deck isn’t quite as strong as other top decks, it’s still quite a solid deck.

Galactus – B-Tier

Marvel Snap Galactus Deck

Galactus Decklist:

eyJOYW1lIjoiTmV3IERlY2siLCJDYXJkcyI6W3siQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiRGFyZWRldmlsIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJTcGlkZXJNYW4ifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IkVsZWN0cm8ifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IldhdmUifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IlNodXJpIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJIb2Jnb2JsaW4ifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6Ik5pbXJvZCJ9LHsiQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiQW1lcmljYUNoYXZleiJ9LHsiQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiS251bGwifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IkdhbGFjdHVzIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJEZXN0cm95ZXIifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IkRlYXRoIn1dfQ==
  • 2-cost: Daredevil
  • 3-cost: Wave, Spider-Man
  • 4-cost: Shuri
  • 5-cost: Hobgoblin, Nimrod
  • 6-cost: Knull, Galactus, America Chavez, Destroyer, Death

Commentary:

Galactus has definitely fallen off, and he’s usually seen in Electro Ramp style decks than his own deck.

Even this version uses the Shuri Nimrod combo to add some additional power to the deck. Galactus is definitely nowhere near his old potential, but you can still steal some wins with him.

Galactus definitely suffers more in Conquest where you opponent can learn what you’re playing, so I don’t rate him too highly compared to other decks.

Collector Dino – B-Tier

Collector Dino

  • 1-cost: Kitty Pryde, Nebula, Agent 13, Quinjet
  • 2-cost: Angela, The Collector, Maria Hill, Sentinel
  • 3-cost: Bishop, Agent Coulson
  • 4-cost: Moon Girl
  • 5-cost: Devil Dinosaur

Commentary:

This Dino deck is definitely a budget option compared to the other decks in this list. Dino is susceptible to Enchantress, Shang-Chi, and Rogue, but the deck can still perform decently well.

Just don’t expect to win an Infinity Conquest with Dino.

Replacements:

  • White Queen

Ongoing – B-Tier

Ongoing Decklist:

eyJOYW1lIjoiZXBpYyBvcmthIG9uZ29pbmcgZGVjayIsIkNhcmRzIjpbeyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJBbnRNYW4ifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IkxpemFyZCJ9LHsiQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiTHVrZUNhZ2UifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6Ik1vam8ifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IkNvc21vIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJNckZhbnRhc3RpYyJ9LHsiQ2FyZERlZklkIjoiSmVhbkdyZXkifSx7IkNhcmREZWZJZCI6IlN1cGVyU2tydWxsIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJLbGF3In0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJJcm9uTWFuIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJPcmthIn0seyJDYXJkRGVmSWQiOiJTcGVjdHJ1bSJ9XX0=
  • 1-cost:
  • 2-cost:
  • 3-cost:
  • 4-cost:
  • 5-cost:
  • 6-cost:

Commentary:

In the past, Ongoing decks relied on Professor X and Destroyer to win games, but that has been too weak for a long time now.

With the release of Jean Gray, Ongoing decks now have a different win condition. You lock your opponent into a lane with Jean Gray and Cosmo, and you win another lane with Orka or Spectrum.

While the deck isn’t amazing, it’s still competitive enough to be played, and with more support, we may see the deck rise up the tier list.

On Reveal – B-Tier

  • 1-cost: Sunspot, Iceman
  • 2-cost: Scorpion
  • 3-cost: Ironheart, Wolfsbane, Storm
  • 4-cost: Wong
  • 5-cost: White Tiger, Black Panther
  • 6-cost: Arnim Zola, Doctor Doom, Odin

Commentary:

This deck is honestly more of a Tier 4 deck, but I thought I should include at least one deck that is more budget friendly for newer players. The deck doesn’t use any many Series 3 cards, and doesn’t have any Series 4 or 5 cards.

While this deck isn’t amazing compared to the others, it can definitely still win some games.

Methodology

We’ve tried our best to evaluate these decks based on a few key factors:

  • Overall Win %: This looks to see simply how often a deck wins. It doesn’t matter if you only win 1 cube a game if your win % is 70%. You can simply spam games to Infinite.
  • Consistency: Consistency is quite hard to determine for Snap due to the snap mechanics. You can always retreat and make up for it if what your deck does is extremely powerful, albeit difficult to pull off. Even still, being able to enact a similar game plan repeatedly leans to an overall smoother climb.
  • Flexibility: For Marvel Snap, flexibility is somewhat equivalent to “surprise factor.” A deck is flexible if you have a multitude of options that your opponent cannot easily counter/predict. This means you aren’t always enacting 1 gameplan every game, but can adapt based on the situation.

Note: For numbers like win %, we would like to credit sources like Snap.fan and Marvelsnap.pro for their statistics and tracking.
