5 Champions You Need to Try in Arena Mode

Arena Mode is Riot Games’ latest game mode. It is their first major game mode to be added to the League of Legends universe in some years. It is basically a new map and a new way of fighting your enemies. It is intended to be a short game mode, that can be enjoyed by casuals and players who want to climb.

In this Mobalytics article, we will discuss 5 champions that you need to try and out have a go at in Arena Mode. They may not be statistically the best champions, but we found them to be quite good and quite fun to play as.

I would highly recommend playing one of these champions with a friend and just have some fun.

5 Champions You Need to Try in Arena Mode

  1. Amumu
  2. Olaf
  3. Rell
  4. Sylas
  5. Rammus

Naturally, all these champions require someone good to play with, so I will give some recommendations as we go along. We’ve made a lot of additional Arena Mode articles lately, which you can find here if you want to level up your Arena Mode skill and rank.

1. Amumu

Ever since Amumu’s rework, he has become a great and much easier champion to play. Having 2 Q’s in this game mode is really good, as he can layer CC and lock enemies down. In the very early game of Arena Mode, this is ideal.

Furthermore, post 6, you can press R or use your Ultimate as an engage or counter-engage tool and lock down both enemy players. He is incredibly fun and versatile: building full AP or full tank, depending on his other ally.

Regardless of the build, Amumu is really fun and has many tools to handle almost every meta champion in Arena Mode.

2. Olaf

If you’ve played a few games of Arena Mode, you know how much CC and how many tanks you face. Olaf can counter all of these tanks with his Ultimate, which he can activate to ignore CC for a brief period of time. This is great in this game mode, and it will make him unstoppable!

Olaf deals an extraordinary amount of damage in all-ins with his Q, which he will spam on enemies early on. When he faces squishy or immobile champions early on, he practically wins every 2v2.

Let’s not forget that the lower Olaf gets, the more sustain he can get. When you face tanky opponents that don’t deal damage, he will win practically all 1v1s in the depleting ring.

3. Rell

If this champion isn’t banned, then you should just pick her! Rell is one of the best champions in this game due to her CC tools and her tackiness. Pair her with an ADC like Samira or another champion with CC/ damage; then, you’ll stomp the early game.

Rell is really good, as you can buff up your ally, jump in, CC the enemy targets, and extend the CC duration with more of your abilities. As the general rule in this game mode is to stick with your other ally, Rell will be able to CC both of the enemy players as they’ll be on top of one another.

Rell has a very versatile build path, so she can build many different items depending on the teams she will face. If you’re playing Rell, be aggressive and watch what champions you’re facing when you load into the lobby.

4. Sylas

Sylas is a very strong champion in Arena Mode. He has lots of sustain, damage and even a CC tool. This will help him in the early levels, but he truly comes online once he reaches level 6 and has an item under his belt.

Not many champions buy healing reduction items so that he can get a ton of sustain. He will also be able to use his empowered autos often, which greatly increases his damage output. However, the real reason you’re picking him- it’s for his Ultimate.

Sylas can steal one of your opponent’s Ultimates, so if they have a strong skirmishing Ultimate, he can easily use it against you. When playing Sylas, take the Ultimate of the person with the best Ultimate in fights. Don’t pick utility- just pick damage, something preferably that scales with AP so you deal extra damage.

5. Rammus

The final champion on our list is Rammus. It should be obvious why he is on our list, but Rammus is a disgustingly strong champion in this game mode. He just needs to taunt the biggest threat, and then he will practically one-shot them.

Rammus will be building tank items, and if you know his build and have played against a feed Rammus, then you know how hard it can be to deal with him. The taunt damage, the item damage and the damage coming from his ally make it hard for even tanks to deal with him.

After a few rounds, he will get his Ultimate, making him a bigger threat as he can launch himself over the map to take down enemies from afar. Let’s not forget that no one buys QSS in this game mode!

Summary

Arena Mode is Riot Games’ latest game mode. You can play every champion in it, and we’ve played countless games on the PBE trying it out to come up with this list. Of course, our list could’ve been somewhat endless, and each champion has their own strengths and weaknesses in the new game mode. At the end of the day, play champions you enjoy and not just champions who are good.
